Notes:
- Einstein famously stated, “If you can’t explain something simply, you don’t understand it well enough.” Understanding the significance of Truth is, in fact, quite straightforward: there is only one Life—Perfect, Eternal, Whole, Absolute Goodness, and Changeless. It doesn’t get more uncomplicated than that. Yet, why do we find ourselves struggling with Life when Truth stands self-evident and requires no defense?
- This reminds me of a scene from a Peter Sellers movie, where he encounters a dog in a hotel lobby. He asks the desk clerk, “Does your dog bite?” The clerk responds, “No.” Sellers attempts to pet the dog, only to be bitten. Confused, he looks at the clerk, who calmly replies, “That’s not my dog.” Similarly, the events of this world—both good and bad—are not representative of true Life. As Colossians 3:3 declares, “Life is hid with Christ in God.”
- To begin grasping Life, we must first recognize the nature of error—a mental and material illusion mistakenly believed to constitute life. We can affirm the Truth: the Omnipresence of the Divine Principle of Eternal Life, present everywhere and always. By embracing the Christ, the saving dimension of Truth, we access the bridge that makes Divine creation comprehensible to human understanding.
- Spirit is the sole Self-Existent Power in the universe. As Mary Baker Eddy taught, being One with God makes you the majority. Embracing fear only leads to loss. Fear serves as a defense mechanism for the false sense of self—a self that depends on belief for its existence. Popularized notions of spirituality often portray spirit as comforting, indulgent, and tailored to personal desires. This deceptive image is akin to a wolf in sheep’s clothing, leading many astray. The Divine Principle does not cater to personal identities and challenges the false self, as there is no mortal, temporary life in Truth. “Life is hid with Christ in God.”
- Eternal life serves as its own safeguard. John 12:25 reminds us, “He that loves his life shall lose it; and he that hates his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.” This verse illuminates a profound truth: those who find contentment solely in the human experience are bound to perish in time, caught in the cycle of sin or mortality. The endless loop of death and rebirth fosters a false sense of life, rooted in the illusion of dual powers. We remain subject to karmic law until we relinquish our attachment to matter and mortality, embracing rebirth in Spirit.
- True Spiritual health requires surrendering the belief in material health in favor of Divine health. This transformation demands conscious effort and a deep commitment to knowing the Truth. It is a journey of overcoming the false sense of life, particularly the fear that arises from “animal magnetism.” To transcend mortal thought, we must master three critical stages: first, conquering fear; second, letting go of the personal sense of self; and finally, defeating the collective consciousness of mortal mind—the “dragon” of world mind.
- Though the path is simple in concept, it is far from easy. Yet, through perseverance, we can walk reason through the open door of Revelation, discovering the eternal life that frees us from the bonds of illusion.
- John 16:7 states, “Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: It is for your benefit that I go away. For if I do not go, the Comforter will not come to you. But if I depart, I will send Him to you.” This passage reminds us that we cannot cling to a fleeting sense of life while simultaneously embracing eternal, immortal Life. To fully receive the Truth, the false must be relinquished. The Comforter, the Holy Spirit, represents the active presence of Christ, harmonizing the human with the Divine and unveiling the perfection of God’s creation.
- Guilt, shame, anger, resentment, blame, emptiness, and boredom are all manifestations of fear’s unexpressed counterpart. To break free, stop overthinking, as thought is inherently dualistic—every positive thought carries its opposite within. The call to “repent” in scripture encourages us to change our mindset and see differently.
